Perfect as a day trip from central Tokyo, Mount Nokogiri is located on the opposite side of Tokyo Bay and boasts a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji. Take the ropeway to the summit, and roam the expansive grounds of Nihon-ji temple, home to statues of the Buddha and Kannon; among other holy artefacts.

1. The Daibutsu (“great Buddha”) of Nihonji was completed in 1783 and was once the largest stone Buddha in Japan.

2. Take a moment to appreciate the temple’s beautiful wooden architecture by stopping to pay your respects and make a wish.

3. You will spot many more Buddha statues, in different styles and poses, during your visit.

4. Take a ride up the mountain on the Nokogiriyama Ropeway, which climbs a vertical interval of 223m in about 3 minutes.
