Daimaru proffers up fashion garments for modern living, bountiful cosmetics, as well a vast array of food. Around 50 different brands of Japanese and western confectioneries and other sweets are on display on the 1st floor, and there are more than 600 variants of boxed lunches on the basement floor. The cafes and restaurants on each of the floors are also hugely popular, so snag a table quick.

1. Daimaru is a modern department store with branches in prime locations in every major Japanese city, but its history dates back to 1717.

2. The famous food hall is on the basement level. Here you will find tasty cookies in green tea and honey flavours, all packed in gorgeous gift sets.

3. Ready-to-eat dishes are another highlight of the food hall, where you can buy portions priced by weight.

4. Traditional red bean pudding is popular among the locals, and best served with a cup of hot green tea for an afternoon treat.
