A standing Japanese barbeque restaurant for grilled meat lovers
Budget
Opening Hours 11am - 5am daily

If you love grilled meats and barbeque, you have to try Jiromaru located in Tokyo's Shinjuku district.  It is a traditional yakiniku (Japanese grilled meat) restaurant. Here, the guests stand as they eat, reflecting past customs. Besides the experience, Jiromaru also serves high-quality meat at reasonable prices. Dishes start at only 150 yen (around $1.50 USD).  So, don’t hesitate to try it out! For the adventurous, intestines are also available. Unlike their boiled counterparts in Kyushu, grilled organs are much easier to accept if you are trying for the first time! The shop has long opening hours, going from 11am to 5am the next day. If you are ever in Tokyo, this is a must-try meat grilling experience.

1. Jiromaru serves meat from Shiga and Nagano prefectures, much of it is high quality A5-ranked beef.

2. A small personal grill on the counter offers the perfect spot for singles looking to enjoy a meal on their own.

3. Cuts are displayed in a glass showcase, similar to sushi restaurants, so you can order by the slice to enjoy the variety.

4. The sign outside, which resembles three large wooden menu boards advertises fresh pork, stand-up barbeque, and A5-rated beef.

5. Hesitant about ordering for just yourself? Jiromaru sells meat by mouthful, so you can enjoy a range of cuts without repeating!
